This calculation is carried out for each work packet. The results are the total cost for each project<br />

breakdown element. Adding up the costs (staff costs <strong>and</strong> other costs) for each procedure, each<br />

work packet <strong>and</strong> each project segment determines the cost <strong>of</strong> the entire project. The costs are<br />

then entered into the PM s<strong>of</strong>tware used or into a table calculation system according to the struc-<br />

ture <strong>of</strong> the project breakdown, <strong>and</strong> thus present the budget. This is then the basis for follow-up <strong>of</strong><br />

costs in monitoring <strong>and</strong> controlling the project.<br />

2.2.6 PLAN OPTIMIZATION<br />

All project managers <strong>of</strong>ten have the same bitter experience at the end <strong>of</strong> project planning. The<br />

“magic triangle variables” given for the specified targets in the project contract:<br />

– Time<br />

– Resources<br />

– Performance scope<br />

can be verified by planning in only a few cases.<br />

Because these variables only have to do with contracts or orders which cannot be renegotiated,<br />

an optimization plan must then be carried out.<br />

Plan optimization is oriented to the variables in the magic triangle:<br />

– Time > requires > optimization <strong>of</strong> the project duration<br />

– Resources > require > optimization <strong>of</strong> the resource approach<br />

– Performance scope > requires > optimization <strong>of</strong> the project scope<br />

Here are some negotiating recommendations for this:<br />

Examine in particular all activities on the critical path. These activities directly influence the total<br />

duration <strong>of</strong> the project. The following are some tips for optimization:<br />
