Groothuis and Akbar identify four key processes and phenomena which form the non-linear path
of the company’s organizational transformation [ibid, p. 50]:
– Firstly, developing a set of objectives which creates a formal structure for the change
process and communicated in a top-down approach;
– secondly, implementing a socialization mechanism which creates space for controlled
debate about the benefits of globalization and selecting a cadre of managers who are
expected to lead the process of organizational change;
– thirdly, creating mechanisms of routinization which make the globalization strategy typi-
cal with respect to the MNC’s day-to-day activities;
