What all linear phase models have in common is the fact that a new phase can only begin if the
previous phase has been closed out. In contrast to the cyclical phase model (Fig. 10), the fol-
lowing phase can begin before the previous phase is completed. Similarly, possible setbacks to
previous phases can be undertaken.

The project manager decides, on the basis of the relevance to the project,which of these phase
models will be used for a project.
2.1.3.2 PHASE PLAN
The phase plan stems from the phase model, in which the project manager creates the following
project-specific data for each phase:
– Phase description
– significant activities in the phase
– expected results at the end of the phase
– forecast duration of the phase
The table in Fig. 11 shows an example of the phase details.
