What all linear phase models have in common is the fact that a new phase can only begin if the<br />

previous phase has been closed out. In contrast to the cyclical phase model (Fig. 10), the fol-<br />

lowing phase can begin before the previous phase is completed. Similarly, possible setbacks to<br />

previous phases can be undertaken.<br />

The project manager decides, on the basis <strong>of</strong> the relevance to the project,which <strong>of</strong> these phase<br />

models will be used for a project.<br />

2.1.3.2 PHASE PLAN<br />

The phase plan stems from the phase model, in which the project manager creates the following<br />

project-specific data for each phase:<br />

– Phase description<br />

– significant activities in the phase<br />

– expected results at the end <strong>of</strong> the phase<br />

– forecast duration <strong>of</strong> the phase<br />

The table in Fig. 11 shows an example <strong>of</strong> the phase details.
