vant professional journals.
2.5 PLAN THE WORK – CREATE EXPOSÉS
– Split the entire task into visible work steps, and carry out these steps in a factually justi-
fied order.
– Determine the approximate time needed as well as the starting and ending date for the
individual steps.
– Note: The planned time period is significantly greater than the pure working time.
– Control the »scientific work« project using regular checks.
– In advance, ensure which persons and institutions are to be contacted, and what resour-
ces may be needed.
– Above all, determine (umformuliert) the critical resources (e. g. supervisors, database,
color laser printer, etc.).
– obtain an overview of the planned costs and the possibility to obtain financial and/or ma-
terial support.
– determine the design of the scientific examination. Check the appropriateness of the fol-
lowing models: »pre-study«, »generalization«, »deepening« or »triangulation«
– Establish the exposé early in the planning phase, and keep at the top of your desk.
– Check the contents of the exposé during the examination for extensions and necessary
changes.
– Use the exposé as a document for discussions and consultations as well as for the pre-
sentation of chosen results.
– Develop a raw version of the scientific work from the exposé.
2.6 CHOOSE AND ASSESS LITERATURE
– Choose the respective current professional literature for the examination. Always work
with the newest version.
– Rely primarily on print media (monographs, professional journals, professional books,
and professional dictionaries). Use the internet as an extension.
– Always work with primary sources; recourse to secondary sources should be avoided
where possible
– Ensure that the professional literature used is accessible to the professional public.
– Approach the professional literature critically.
– Distinguish between sources and further reading. Use titles which find direct application
to the scientific work in your source directory only.
