learning usually takes place in the family, through informal education, and in the case of
embroidery, the girls learned the first points still in childhood, because in former times,
according to embroiderers, "the best notebook was linen and the best pencil was the
needle of embroidery. " Throughout the work, we investigate this embroidery as an
office, where the girl, at the same time as she learns, works. In conversations with these
women, we realize that they are proud of the craft of embroidery, although they state
"that the need to have some money from this work is greater." Mills (2009) helps to
think the relationship of the craftsman and his work. As he confers to work the quality
of his own mind and ability, he is also developing his own nature (Mills, 2009). These
theoretical reflections are necessary to show that artisan work is not defined only as a
manual work, but because of the capacity and ability of the artisan's creation and his
identification with the object to be created by him. In artisanal work, in addition to
cultural aspects, identity aspects of each artisan are also transmitted, so personal
subjective aspects of the producer are also included in the production. According to
Keller (2011), the artisan's work is contemporary in his presence in society. It is not
only a means of survival, but an activity that demands specific skills and abilities,
considered not only manual but above all creative. In this sense, we characterize the
work of design as an activity that correlates creative and practical dimensions. We
conclude that SJP embroiderers, when linking artisan production, work and ergonomics
in order to have a better quality of life, experience difficulties in some aspects, such as
the way of sitting, since the chairs used by them are uncomfortable, the vision it is also
another reported complaint, since the delicate work of embroidering "looks very clear"
as they say. But on the other hand, they feel happy and fulfilled in the self-esteem
aspect, since they are literally considered women of the creative needle.
