ABSTRACT: The non-distinction between what is public and private is a historically marked
and predominant trait in Brazilian cultural identity. This dubious relationship can be observed in
the national literature that achieved highlights in various ways through characters who
resembled real backwards or anti-heroes. Music, arts and other social segments are also
embedded in this polysemous context that involves the public-private relationship. It is,
therefore, from this observation that it is proposed to discuss the concept of patrimonialism in
Brazil, offering a new meaning from the perspective of digital networked journalism. In this
perspective, we intend to make a theoretical-analytical cut from the marks and / or traces of
Brazilian culture, such as plasticity, trickery, “jeitinho”, materialized in patrimonialism,
clientelism, corruption etc. that were forged along with the Portuguese, but which are resignified
in today's journalism. The specific interest is to understand the operandi modus of the
productive dynamics of online journalism that are directly related to patrimonialism. In this
way, we develop a qualitative research, supported by authors like Bruhns (2012), Luís de Sousa
(2008, 2016) Sérgio Buarque de Holanda (2011), Roberto Da Matta (1997) and Jessé de Souza
(2000, 2016) , to think about the concepts of patrimonialism, to discuss the formation of culture
and to understand the relation of this with the journalism that is done online.
