Mesdamoiselles de Portugal 2) se prevalants du respect que je doibs et à leur sexe
et à leur naissance, m'ordonnent en forme de priere de vous importuner au subject
de ce porteur, creature bastarde que le prince Don Emanuel 3) leur frere a mis au
monde, sans avoir de quoy l'y faire vivre, si ce n'est par la voye des armes, dans
laquelle il tesmoigne avoir envie de se pousser soubs l'honneur de vostre
commandement. Je vous supplie tres-humblement, Monsieur, d'aggreer cest office
de ma main, en consideration de ce que dessus, et de favoriser ce pauvre garçon
d'autant de bienvueillance que vous le trouverez capable d'en meriter ..... 8 Mars

My cosen Erners 4) extreame long patience is come to an end. Seeing her husband
hath no mind to seeke her, where one day he was glad and not unhappie to have
found her, she is fayne to follow him where he ought to have carryed her, after he
hath got his libertie, and no pretext was left him for this strange and not verie Christian
desertion of a wel borne gentlewomen, who was never guiltie of any misdemeanour
against him. I hope, Sir, your natural wisdom will make you overrule your sonnes
conscience, which once at last should be touched of what his poore lady hath suffered
by him. It is time indeed, they and their poore children should meet againe, and
make an end of these shamefull distractions. I doe heartily intreate you to bring all
what is possible and reasonable to so good and charitable a worke, so that the Lords
blessing may be drawen upon both your families, and we all have occasion to give
you thankes and praise for it. It will be an obligation unto which I shall thinke myself
bound very specially, as being without that ..... 10 March 1656.

Hierbij gaat eene missive van den advokaat van den Broeck. Nu de

Den 2 den April verliet Huygens den Haag, bleef een dag in Antwerpen en kwam den 8 sten te
Brussel, waar hij zijn ambtgenoot Aernout van Beaumont vond. Zij hadden in opdracht, om
aan te dringen op het betalen van de groote schuld van den Koning van Spanje aan den Prins
van Oranje en op tusschenkomst van de regeering bij het proces, dat de gravin van Isenghien
voerde over eenige goederen der Oranjes in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden.
