which is the transmit fiber and which is the receive fiber for proper<br />

re-connection at the end of this procedure. The fiber connected to the transmit<br />

side of the lightwave transceiver on one circuit pack should be connected to the<br />

receive side of the lightwave transceiver on the circuit pack on the opposite end<br />

of the fiber.<br />

3. Using a spare fiber jumper cable, interconnect the transmit and receive jacks of the<br />

lightwave transceiver as shown in Figure 107: Interconnection of Lightwave Transceiver<br />

Transmit/Receive Jacks.<br />

sure that the total length of the fiber jumper cable does not exceed the<br />

maximum length recommended for the fiber link connections between cabinets.<br />

Test the Expansion Interface or SNI circuit pack within connectivity guidelines so<br />

that test results are not influenced due to improper cable length.<br />

4. Go to the front of the cabinet and inspect the yellow LED.<br />

● If the yellow LED flashes on at a rate of once per second, the Expansion Interface or<br />

Switch Node Interface circuit pack or transceiver should be replaced.<br />

● If the yellow LED flashes on at a rate of five times per second, the circuit pack<br />

(Expansion Interface or Switch Node Interface) or the lightwave transceiver may need<br />

replacement. This may also be due to a faulty system clock on the network containing<br />

the Expansion Interface circuit pack or in the switch node carrier containing the SNI.<br />

● If the yellow LED was blinking before starting this procedure and the yellow LED is not<br />

blinking now, this circuit pack (Expansion Interface or Switch Node Interface) and the<br />

lightwave transceiver are functioning properly.<br />

5. Replace faulty component(s) and reconnect the original fiber. Be sure to reconnect the<br />

fibers properly as noted in Step 2.<br />

6. Use release board location to release the Expansion Interface circuit pack or<br />

Switch Node Interface circuit pack.<br />
