Community Perspective on Stored Products Insects in Selected Areas of
Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, Malaysia.

To evaluate knowledge and perceptions of pest infestation on stored products among
households in selected area of Kuala Nerus. Interviews using standardize
questionnaire was conducted among residents and households of selected area of
Kuala Nerus. A total of 150 respondents were involved in this study. Mean age of the
participants was 30.00 ± 13.02 years. A majority of 123 (82%), identified what is
stored product and a majority of 139 (92.6%), identified what is stored product pest.
Besides that, 147 (98%) respondents think stored product pests can cause serious
harm to health. It was found that all respondents determined the condition of the
stored products whether it is infested or not infested by pest and the expiry date
before purchase. This study demonstrated that of educational programs for
households belonging to various age groups can be conducted to increase awareness
on stored products and its pests.
