The influence of porewater salinity on methane fluxes in mangrove soil in Setiu
Wetland was studied. The gas samples from mangrove soil were obtained using closed
static chambers. The gas samples were collected at three different littoral zones that
have different salinity level. The methane were analysed by gas chromatography in
laboratory. Results showed that at lower littoral zones have highest methane flux
compare to mid littoral zones and upper littoral zones in range (3.74 x 10 8 m -2 mins -1
to 1.73 x 10 8 m -2 mins -1 ). Salinity factors show the strong relationship that influence
emission of fluxes. This experiment proved that salinity level influence the emission of
methane flux from mangrove into atmosphere.
