Kuraman Island (5°12´32.52´N, 115°07´10.46´E) is a small tropical island belonging
to Malaysia in the South China Sea located off the coast of Federal Territory of Labuan.
The interest of this study is to determine the best model and best estimation method
of geostatistical technique for bathymetry mapping. Besides, the study also use to
develop optimization sampling transect using the geostatistical technique and
assessing the estimation error analyzed. This study was conducted around the
Kuraman Island, Rusukan Besar Island and Rusukan Kecil Island using a boat that
carried along the Echotrac MKIII which is used to calculate water depth beneath the
boat. The purpose of this study is to optimize the sampling transect that have been
reduce to achieve small different estimation error among four models selected in
Ordinary Kriging. The lower the Residual Sum Square (RSS) indicates the best
empirical semivariogram model. Thus, the lowest Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of
empirical semivariogram model will prove small differences that indicates optimize
sampling transect.
