The Influence of Environmental Factors on the Occurrence of
Terrestrial Orchids in BRIS Ecosystem

The aim of this study is to investigate the environmental factors that affecting
the occurrence of terrestrial orchids in BRIS ecosystem in Setiu, Terengganu.
A total of 50 quadrats (1 m x 1 m) was established in the area with orchid’s
occurrence. Soil was sampled using 100 cm 3 metal ring near to the rooting zone
of the orchids and was brought back to the laboratory for further analysis.
Environmental factors such as light intensity and soil temperature were
measured in-situ. The soil samples then were analyzed using
Loss of Ignition (LOI) method and CHNS-O Analyzer. The results show that soil
temperature, soil pH (KCl) and soil organic matter were significantly correlated
with the occurrence of the orchids (P
