Waste reception facilities are important for managing sewage and is one way to
control environmental pollution. This research focuses on management of waste
reception facilities for houseboats at Tasik Kenyir. The objectives of this research are
to examine what is the current status of the management of waste reception facilities
for houseboats at Tasik Kenyir and to examine the potential for development of waste
reception facilities at jetty as practiced at port. This research uses a qualitative
method by interviewing selected respondents through semi-structured interview
questionnaires and the data obtained was analysed descriptively by using
documentary analysis to identify the existing management of the waste reception
facilities and SWOT analysis was used to determine potential of developing waste
reception facilities as provided at port to jetty where the houseboats were berthed.
The finding shows that there is an existing management of waste reception facilities
at Pengkalan Gawi for houseboats discharging their sewage. The management of
waste reception facilities at Tasik Kenyir can be improved and better managed if the
regulation as suggested by MARPOL Annex IV for sewage treatment, and indirectly
will protect the water from being polluted.
