Aedes albopictus plays an important role as vector of numerous arboviruses. It
ability to utilize in various water containers near human habitation as breeding
site increase the risk of disease-vector-human contact. The objectives for this
study are to determine the distribution of Ae. albopictus in UMT campus and to
determine the effect of water volume on development, survival of Ae.
albopictus larvae as well as adult size. Ae. albopictus eggs were collected by
using ovitrap method and immersed in different volume of water to observe
their hatchability and larvae development. The results showed that vegetation
area of UMT campus had higher number of Ae. albopictus population and the
small volume of water (250ml) caused faster development for this species. An
immediate action must be taken to destroy Aedes potential breeding sites near
vegetation area particularly during intermittent rainfall as it will resulted in small
volume of water in breeding containers which ideal for Aedes development.
