Soil organic carbon and total nitrogen are used as indexes of soil quality assessment
and sustainable land use management. We determined the percentages of carbon and
total nitrogen by investigate the pH, salinity and soil particle (sand, slit and clay) using
CHNO analyzer and PSA analyzer. We compare with three different sampling sites
which are high ground, semi-tide influence and tide-influence. High percentages of
carbon and total nitrogen are observed at high ground area due to active carbon input
through litter fall. Lower soil carbon and nitrogen contents were observed in semi tide
and tide-influence areas. From the soil particle, we can explore the relation between
soil particle with the content of carbon and total nitrogen in the soil at UMT. Any
changes in land use and landscape will change the distribution of carbon and total
nitrogen along the soil profile.
