As the sixth rank of the vegetable crop in global production, eggplant is categorized
as among the important crop grown in various tropical and temperate parts of the
world, including Malaysia. In previous studies, the interspecific hybridization in
Eggplant for abiotic stress tolerance production lines resulted in limited success due
to embryo abortion . Thus, intraspecific hybridization among two F1 hybrid progeny of
(Oval Eggplant No. 302 x Round Eggplant No. 311) and reciprocal cross is conducted
to get different shape of egg plants fruits. Therefore, more choices in the market for
customers. Simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers will be used to identify the hybrid
purity and these hybrid lines will be assesed its performance in the field in future
research program.
