Solid waste generation has been increasing every year with increasing population
density in Pulau Perhentian. The use of polystyrene and plastic is still practiced by the
population. It becomes more complicated if it is not controlled from now and will have
a negative impact on the environment and aquatic life. Therefore, a study has been
conducted to obtain the value of prevention of the use of polystyrene and plastic
products. The purpose of this study was to explore the extent of the awareness of the
people in Pulau Perhentian to reduce the use of polystyrene and plastic. The research
instrument used is questionnaire. Observation was also carried out to add more
information to prepare for this scientific study. A total of 68 respondents were analyzed
using SPSS software. The findings show that the level of knowledge of the population
about the impact of polystyrene use on nature and health is high but the main factor
affecting the population to participate in the reduction program is the attitude of the
population to preserve the environment and to maintain the beauty of the island.
