Color fading or darkening is a common problem in ornamental fish species. Color
enhancer pellet can be expensive and sometimes might not work. Therefore an
alternative cheaper method to enhance ornamental fish body coloration needs to be
developed. Thus, this study was done to investigate the effect of rearing tank
coloration on the colour intensity of the Siamese fighting fish, Betta splenden. Four
different tank colours (white, blue, yellow and green) with five replicates were used
and fish were kept under natural lighting for two months. The fish were fed ad libitum
with commercial micropellet without addition of food colour enhancer. Result shows
that fish reared in blue coloured tank showed an increment in its colour intensity and
green coloured tank shows rapid growth. The findings of this study benefits the
industry where it introduced an alternative and cheaper way to enhance ornamental
fish body coloration.
