The Distribution of Parasite on Dasyatiade’s Gills in Terengganu

Stingrays (Dasyatidae) is a marine creatures which full with mystery. It has a unique
respiratory organ compared to the other types of fish. Even though it has a unique
gills, it could not prevent from getting invaded by the pathogens; The Parasite.
Generally gills is a target side of infection for the parasite. Based on the previous
study, there is no data recorded for parasite which present on the gills of the stingray.
Therefore, the purposes of this study are to discover the types of parasite and their
morphologies that could be found in the gills. This study is expected to find the
Monogenea and Isopod parasite on the gills. The result of the study shown that
crustacean parasite, Copepod and Caligus were found. This was happened because
maybe due to the feeding behaviour and the wild habitat of the stingrays. The data
of the study was significance because it will provide new data for the upcoming
studies.
