Comparative study on the safety level of passenger ferries
operating between Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis

This report is regarding a study on the level of safety of the ferry service
provided by the operator to carry passengers to Langkawi between Kuala Kedah
and Kuala Perlis. The first objective of this study is to identify the safety
measure taken by operator in both jetty. The basic safety measure that are
been using is based on the previous research which are crew's ability and
qualification, safety equipment and instruction, ferry condition and passenger
capacity, and documentation and inspection. The second objective is to
evaluate and compare the level of safety measures implemented on passenger
ferries operating Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis Ferry and the last objective is to
propose any additional steps that operator may take to improve their service in
term of safety quality. This research conducted by using questionnaire survey
and observation on the ferry safety. Then, the data collected will be analysed
by using SPSS method in achieving both objectives. The study could become
the reference for the future research and could be using by the operator in
order to improve their safety quality on their ferry service.
