Prevalence and mean intensity of monogenea and nematode on
Barbonymus schwanenfeldi in Kenyir Lake, Terengganu

This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence and mean intensity of
monogenea and nematode on Barbonymus schwanenfeldii in Kenyir Lake,
Terengganu. A total of 35 Barbonymus schwanenfeldii (Lampam Sungai) were caught
and examined for the presence of monogenea and nematodes. The prevalence and
mean intensity of these parasites were determined according to the group size of the
fish host (small, medium and large). Out of 35 fish examined, 22 fish were found to
be infected by monogenea and 29 fish were infected by nematode. The highest
prevalence (100%) and mean intensity of monogenea (2) and nematode (4) were
found on the largest fish which is more than 21cm. From this study, it shows that
prevalence and mean intensity was highest in the large size than the small size of the
fish host.
