Ecological footprint is an environmental indicator which reveal how far people<br />

are from sustainable state. Nowadays, food consumption contribute to<br />

environmental impacts due to lack awareness of ecological footprint especially<br />

among students. Therefore, this study was aimed to determine knowledge of<br />

ecological footprint, pattern of food consumption in term of diet practices, food<br />

preparation, waste disposal and finally to identify sustainable way in food<br />

consumption among Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti<br />

Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) students. Questionnaire survey was conducted<br />

among 747 students from both universities. 57% of UMT and 72% of UniSZA<br />

students had low awareness about knowledge of ecological footprint. Chisquare<br />

test showed a significant difference between knowledge of ecological<br />

footprint with age and accommodation types but no significant difference in<br />

gender. In dietary practices, 53% of UMT and UniSZA students practicing lightmeat<br />

eater where they included meat meal in every two or three days. Besides,<br />

93% students think that it is important to practice sustainable lifestyle in food<br />

consumption.<br />
