Identification and Characterization of Marine Bacteria against Rice

Rice is a staple food for more than half of population in the world and very susceptible
to abiotic factors and biotics factors. The study is conduct to achieve the following two
goals which are to characterize the bacteria strains and to determine the antagonist
activity between marine bacteria and X. oryzae. The marine bacteria samples are
identified through molecular test and biochemical test. There are one of six strains of
marine bacteria have been sequenced, and it comes from genus Enterobacter. Next
by biochemical test, all marine bacteria strains have been identified which are from
genus Corynebacterium, Enterobacter, Acinobacter, Sphingomonas, Pseudomonas and
Vibrio. The antagonist testing shown that only genus from Enterobacter and
Pseudomonas show antagonist activity by 0.3mm and 02.mm respectively. The result
not really convincing, farther study not to be done to find better biocontrol agent.
