Breeding Attempt to Breed Dumbo Betta and Halfmoon Betta to Observe
the Development of Pectoral Fins: Case Study

The purpose of this project is to crossbreed Dumbo Betta and determine its genetic
background to produce new variety of Betta splendens. The location for the breeding
process is at the freshwater hatchery in UMT. 3 pair of Dumbo Betta have been bought
by local breeder and 3 pair of Halfmoon Betta have been bought from local fish store.
Before the breeding process started, the water quality and parameters was taken at
the hatchery to provide the best condition for the fish. After a week of conditioning,
the breeding process started. After several trials, the fish became weak and did not
spawn. Some of them spawned but the male was not guarding the eggs. They became
weak and do not want to accept food such as live feed and pellet. The fish were then
undergo treatment and put into water that has Terminalia Catappa leaf in it. A week
later, all the fish died and the breeding attempt was unsuccessful.
