This two-metre giant and former
shot-putting athlete Volker Maier who
cultivates eight hectares of vineyards between
Baden-Baden and Bühlertal, has a fine
sense of humour: his labels state “Bio-Weine
(mit Wucht)” which translates into ‘organic
wines with ooomph’ and the wines themselves
also carry punchy names like the red “Re(d)volution”
made from the varieties Prior, Monarch,
Cabernet Cortis and Cabernet Carbon which
would go well with a barbecue. But Maier is
multi-talented: his Scheurebe brims with playful
charm. A very coherent range of wines that
convince with their unpretentious character.

Candied pineapple on the nose, followed by ripe stone fruit
aromas. Supple and round on the palate, very poised, the
acidity appears later on and remains discreet, intense yellow
fruit, ripe peach and apricot. An accessible and charming

Smoky notes at first on the nose, some liquorice and juniper
berries, deeper scents of pear and quince. On the palate, juicy
and smooth, ripe acidity, underpinned by powerful spice, compact
and firmly composed. Substantially rich Pinot Gris, ideal
with guinea fowl in cream sauce. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Smoke and rose petals on the nose, also mango. On the palate
dry with a lively acidity and some carbon dioxide, intense
fruit aromas, texture, again ripe mango. It depicts the aroma
spectrum of Gewürztraminer. Great with food!

Blend of Prior, Monarch, Cabernet Cortis and Cabernet Cabon.
Quite dark in the glass, blackberry, elderberry and plum
on the nose, also tea and ink. On the palate there is lots of
fruit, which is in the foreground, also power, substance and
spice. Ideal with braised dishes and beef. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Fruity and intense aromas of blackcurrant and passion
fruit, lots of varietal typicity. Slenderly-built on the palate,
independent acidity coated by fine sweetness, charming
interplay to which the polished fruit contributes, fine spiciness.
