The Meintzinger family not only runs a
winery but also a hotel, housed in a historic
country house dating back to
1475. The country house once served as episcopal
summer residence – they always knew
the particularly choice spots. Winemaker
Jochen Meintzinger clearly commits himself
to Silvaner and dedicates much attention to it
– including different ways of vinification. He
also has talent for Riesling: his “Süd-Süd”
Riesling from the Kapellenberg shines with
fine acidity and beautiful balance. We were
also intrigued by the aromatic red made from
the robust Domina-variety.

Kapellenberg Riesling trocken
Pale golden yellow. Intense scents of ripe peach, apricot,
lemon zest and jasmine. On the palate, a well-balanced medium
body and animating acidity, which balances the clear
extract so very well. Good length. 14,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Medium lemon yellow in appearance. Fine fragrance of ripe
peach, mandarine blossom, passion fruit and a whiff of wet
stone. On the palate a very racy acidity, precise fruit aromas,
again of peach. Robust body with fine texture and a good

Kapellenberg Silvaner trocken
Golden yellow in appearance. Scents of vanilla, honey, very
ripe peach and blackcurrant leaf on palate and nose, respectively.
These intense flavours are accompanied by a full body,
good phenolics, texture. Well balanced acidity with tension
delivering a long velvety finish. For power fans.

Medium purple in the glass. On the nose scents of ripe plum,
cooked blackberry and a hint of smoke. On the palate medium
acidity, moderate tannins, medium body, invigorating
acidity with nuances of cherry and dark chocolate. Good
