This organic estate in Schliengen-Mauchen
stands for excellent craftmanship and
calm wines in the best sense of the word.
They show both balance and structure and age
very well, as demonstrated by some of the older
vintages that were submitted for tasting. Of the
wines from the warm 2018 vintage, it is the Chardonnay
Grosses Gewächs from the Mauchener
Frauenberg site that really convinces with tension,
the heat had no negative influence on it. The
Spätburgunder “Alte Reben” from 2016 shows
fine minerality. Worth noting: when you are in
the area you absolutely have to stop at the Gasthaus
that also forms part of the estate!

Clear, rich yellow. On the nose fresh pear, apple, some rose
water, light flowers, delicate vanilla and a hint of brioche. On
the palate nice texture, quince, fine phenolics, tension, fruit
extract, invigorating acidity. Ageing potential.

Grauburgunder Erste Lage trocken
Rich, clear yellow. On the nose ripe pear, almond paste, apple
peel, some quince and smoke; rich notes. On the palate a nice
texture with brioche, pear again, pleasant tension, much extract,
some melon, good structure and length. Ideal with veal
in a mushroom sauce. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Spätburgunder trocken
Rich, dark red. On the nose sloe, sour cherry, smoke, some
redcurrants and blackberry hints, spicy notes with a nuanced
mineral underlay. Finely-polished tannins on the palate, grippy,
red fruits, redcurrants, cherry, good structure and pleasant
length. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
91 2017 »FRAUenFELS« trocken CU/ME
Rich dark red shimmers. Dark red fruit on the nose, blackberry,
plum, ripe red fruits, and hints of smoke in the background.
On the palate rich, ripe tannins, red fruit, blackberry,

Salmon colour. On the nose spicy, raspberry, strawberry,
some redcurrants and slightly deeper notes of herbal
spice. On the palate delicate red fruit, invigorating acidity,
raspberry again, harmonious with nice tension, finishes on
