Notwithstanding the fact that a hailstorm
in April 2019 decimated the
yields at Weingut Georg Jung, Johannes
Jung reports that “the 2019 is a source
of joy.” The young winemaker sets ever stronger
influence at his parental winery. It was a
stint in South Africa that spurred his passion
for Chardonnay which he now matures in new
barriques: his Chardonnay from the Undenheimer
Goldberg is the top wine in a range of
a rather sophisticated wines. His full-bodied
and barrique-aged Sankt Laurent shows that
Jung also knows how to handle reds. Onwards
and upwards!

Fine smoke on the nose, which lies over fruit aromas of pear
and apricot and also spices. Broad on the palate, peppery
spice allied to a smooth base with good balance, lots of substance,
body, minerality and depth. Can evolve further.

Concentrated, ripe nose with fresh and dried apricot, apple,
yellow flowers, spicy and floral notes. The palate also has apple
notes, good extract, density and noticeable sweetness,
much substance, ripe and supporting acidity, mineral underpinnings.

89 2018 Spiesheim Rindertanz Riesling
Ripe notes on the nose, petrol, peach and pineapple juice,
also smoky notes. Powerful and tightly-built on the palate,
wood balanced with sweetness; beautiful fruit, ripe acidity
and mineral appeal. Riesling with good potential that still
needs some time. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
88 2019 Undenheim Grauburgunder trocken
Powerful aromas of fresh pear and caramelised pear, walnut
and floral notes, honeycomb and resin. Noticeable sweetness
on the palate with vivid acidity in a powerful and compact
body, sweet extract, harmoniously-balanced.

91 2018 Selzen St. Laurent Barrique trocken
Smoky notes and concentrated wild berry aromas, cranberry,
discreetly accompanied by herbal spices. Lots of
juiciness and full, long-lasting fruit and drive. The strong
alcohol recedes into a smooth finish with mineral tones.
