Weingut Gaufer is another first-timer
in this guide. Its little subregion
also only crops up very rarely in
wine guides. It is in the Kocher valley, between
Künzelsau and Weissbach that the Schmezer
family owns 11 hectares of vineyards. They
make attractive wines from their vineyard
slopes which are characterised by Triassic
limestone. All of the presented wines retail at
between EUR 6.00 and 15.00 and this already
signals their destiny as gastronomic wines.
The Weissburgunder from the 2017 vintage
thus illustrates that wines with structure and
drive can mature. A most successful debut!
90 2017 »Erlesenes« Ingelfingen Hoher Berg
Weissburgunder trocken
Strong yellow with greenish reflections in the glass. Lactic-buttery
notes on the nose, should be swirled a little. On
the palate a very calm, smooth flow, lots of glycerine, lots of
substance, texture, but also a fine vein of acidity. Shows potential.
13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
Riesling trocken
Enormous piquancy on the nose, lime, lemon tart, light powderiness
and minerality. Very dense on the palate, a very substantial,
spicy version. A little bit of ageing will help to link the
individual components even more. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
89 2018 »Erlesenes« Ingelfingen Hoher Berg
Lemberger trocken
Elderberry dominates the nose, pith and berries, plus violets.
Smooth drinking flow on the palate, black plum nuances,
pronounced fruitiness and lively tannins. Still seems a bit
plump and very fruit-centred, but should develop positively.
14 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
89 2016 »Erlesenes« Ingelfingen Hoher Berg
Spätburgunder trocken
Garnet colour in the glass . On the nose wild strawberry, bay
leaf and slight leathery notes. On the palate medium-bodied
and rather light red in aroma from sweet cherry to cranberry.
Slightly lactic, elegant. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
90 2017 »Erlesenes« Ingelfingen Hoher Berg
Rotwein Cuvée trocken CD/BF/DF/ZW
Two thirds Cabernet Dorsa in the blend. Scents of clove, black
cumin and restrained red and black berries. Lively on the palate
with a nice drinking flow, not extraordinarily complex but
with fine fruit and balance. 12,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
