The former riding stables which now
house the Meersburger Staatsweingut
sit imposingly and majestically above
vines and lake. The site portfolio of this federal-state-owned
estate is just as exalted. Over
the past few years these privileged conditions
were reflected more and more in the glass –
which had moved us to consider once again
awarding a third star to this estate. Johannes
Brückner, the young cellar master who took
full responsibility with the 2019 vintage, has
introduced himself with remarkably good
Rieslings. Bravo! We shall keep this estate on
our three-star watchlist.

Peach, tangerine and grapey notes, followed by slightly muscaty
aromas, ripe citrus fruit, plus a earthy tone - as if it derived
from warm sandstone. On the palate juicy and salty,
ripe, supporting acidity and a fruit-backed sweetness, clear
tactile minerality, independent. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Citrusy, fresh citrus zest, lemon balm, also damp stone and
warm brick. A juicy, tense palate with very good sweetness-acidity
interplay, with great elegance and a crystalline
lightness in everything, a wine from the lake at the highest

Traminer feinherb
Rose and smoky notes, fresh fruity-grapey scents, candied
fruits and a notion of cassata. On the palate creamy, viscous,
comparatively strong sweetness, good acid backbone, high in
intensity, medium in length, a slight mineral tinge. Elegant
Gewürztraminer. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Lerchenberg Spätburgunder
Still reserved on the nose, dark berry, elderberry, tobacco,
chocolatey and buttery tones. Silky and very round on the palate,
powerful by fine means, strong but integrated alcohol,
present tactile minerality, "warm" fruit, good length.

old school Weissherbst in style, a touch of overripeness,
