The sense of optimism on the Bavarian
portion of Lake Constance is unmistakable
– and Ulrike and Oliver
Schaugg from the Rebenhof estate in Nonnenhorn
form part of it. While the effects of climate
change on viticulture are bemoaned elsewhere,
here it helps to create continuity for
slender, focused cool-climate wines. Beyond
that, the Schauggs are also known as specialists
for the rare Souvignier Gris grape variety.
Their red wines are sensitively-extracted and
set store by fruit and elegance rather than
power. What we have here are lake wines with
a new, attractive profile.

Souvignier Gris trocken
Strong yellow hues. Intense aromas of ripe stone fruit, mango,
gooseberry with hints of smoke. Good volume, power and
also density on the palate, firm in its structure, tightly-woven.
The wood and ripe acidity are well-integrated. Ageing potential.

Powerful notes on the nose, ripe yellow gooseberry, redcurrant,
apricot with toasty and floral scents. Well-built on the
palate with power and substance and a lean outline. Juicy
with ripe acidity and nice spiciness. Good balance and coherence.

Blend of Müller-Thurgau and Sauvignon Blanc. Scents of
yeasty and reductive notes, with background gooseberry and
herbal nuances. On the palate there is a lot of tension and animating
freshness, but also with enough substance. Juicy,

Spätburgunder trocken
Black cherry and toasted aromas scents, flanked by herbs
like lovage and hints of beetroot. Opens on the palate with
juiciness and texture, with some pronounced fruitiness, good
volume, shows extract and a ripe acidity accompanied by
