Frank and Felix Hemmes continue in the
same vein as last year: once again this
father-son team presented a balanced
and sophisticated range of wines. You can feel
that the two generations get on well since Felix
Hemmes joined the estate and adds his influence.
The labels had a re-design for the 2018
vintage and the 20 hectares of vines are farmed
in tune with nature. The wines come across as
powerful and linear, but also refined, like the
Riesling Auslese, for instance. The former village
classroom now serves as their wine shop/
cellar door.

Some peach and apricot, but mainly balsamic, stony notes.
Juicy and racy on the palate, good mineral tension, discreet
sweetness, compact structure, harmonious now - but will
continue to develop very favourably. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €

Peach and apricot on the nose, flinty mineral notes and
stewed apple and yellow fruit. The palate offers good balance
of body and texture, a juicy style with acidity and minerality.
Medium weight in depth and length, spicy finish.

92 2018 Bingen Kirchberg Spätburgunder tr.
Complex aromas of sour cherry, herbal bitters, bay leaf and
chocolate powder. Powdery tannin on the palate with a
smooth ripe body and medium density, strong alcohol, ripe
acidity. A firm, very well-built wine with classic proportions.

Riesling Auslese
Caramel, stewed apple and sultana on the nose. On the palate,
rounded fruit with hints of fine spice and minerals. Supple
with fine silky sweetness and ripe acidity. Poised and discreetly
tactile in structure. Not a monster Auslese.

Finely-nuanced berry fruit on nose with grapey notes. Good
concentration on the palate with juiciness and a fine
sweetness with a cultivated and well-integrated acidity. An
appetising, fruit-driven Blanc de Noir.
