Alexander Flick has two unusual vintages
in his cellar. This becomes immediately
clear with two wines that reach
high scores: the 2019 Morstein Riesling, brimming
with mineral extract and the full-bodied
yet balanced 2018 Blaufränkisch. We also
found the Silvaner from the Siefersheim site
Goldenes Horn really individual and sophisticated
– a perfect refutation for those who
think this variety cannot exceed mediocrity.
We also love the textured Grauburgunder and
the Chardonnays that only have the slightest
touch of wood influence.

Riesling trocken
White peach, floral and citrus undertones. Impressive on the
palate, rich and pronounced in fruit, but also kept in balance
by cultivated acidity and a layer of fine phenolics. Intense
tactile mineral finish. Pithy single-vineyard wine.

Silvaner trocken
Herbal spicy notes on the nose and some flint. Still some
yeasty notes. On the palate powerful, juicy, dry phenolics,
still very compact and introverted, very well-proportioned,
really dry with very good potential. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
90 2019 »Réserve« Grauburgunder trocken
A berryish and nutty varietal style, Brazil nut, very full-bodied
on the palate, striking acidity and powerful phenolics, sophisticated
construction, dense and slightly tactile mineral
underpinnings. Quite dry and still very young, needs two or
three years of bottle age. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Amarena cherry, white pepper and pine on the nose. Supple
opening, immediately vivid juicy fruit, great fullness without
being overblown with fine-grained tannins. Rich yet fresh,

Very fragrant, spice box with hints of nutmeg, flax and
yeast. Round and smooth on the palate, stable acidity, a
touch of sweetness, round and textured on the finish. Fulfils
the expectations of a lightly-oaked Chardonnay.
