This long-standing estate – where the
family has been making wine since the
17th century – is known for its absolutely
constant wine quality. Jan Eymael and
his cellar master Rainer Gabel once again presented
wines in 2019 that are as balanced as
they were powerful and at whose apogee are
the Grosse Gewächse. The Riesling from the
Ungsteiner Herrenberg is a particular success.
The two Scheureben, made in very different
styles, are just as exciting and must be tasted.
And we also know that Pfeffingen also knows
how to make sweet wines. The Riesling Auslese
is rich and harmonious.

A hint of overripeness, notes of date, cumin, aniseed. Powerful
on the palate, bold, full bodied with some sweetness and
fine acidity. The minerality of Terra Rossa ensures the wine
finishes elegantly and light-heartedly. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

92 2019 Ungstein Herrenberg Riesling GG
Ripe yellow fruit, mirabelle and plum with herbal-spicy undertones
and a hint of blossom honey. Quite full bodied on
the palate, strong alcohol is somewhat warming. There’s a
firm acidity, sweet fruit and rather discreet minerality.

Weissburgunder GG
White and yellow flowers on the nose, apple, mirabelle
plums and apricot, also notes of ripe citrus fruit. Good balance
on the palate, clear fruit, good substance, clearly composed
with phenolic appeal and ripe, well- integrated acidity.
Classic style with a future. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Mid golden yellow. On the nose, a scent of lemon peel, tomato
leaf and lime. On the palate there is power and a lively
acidity which wonderfully balances the flavours of peach,
passion fruit, redcurrants leaf and biscuit, complemented by
a wonderful bitter note. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Riesling Auslese
Lemon yellow. On the nose a medium intensity of ripe apple,
lemon and nectarine. On the palate these aromas are
extended by very intense flavours of yellow peach, ripe
mango and lemon zest, balanced by lively acidity and with
a long finish. 11 Vol.-%, cork, €€
