Great wines can often be recognised by
appearing just effortless – as though
nature and winemaker had conspired
to this brilliance, just off the cuff. The 2018
Spätburgunder GG from the Lämmler site
shines with exactly that kind of effortlessness.
With this masterpiece Rainer Schnaitmann
may finally have scaled Mount Olympus.
Likewise, his Grosse Gewächse from Riesling,
fully fermented to dryness even in the hot vintage
of 2018 and sometimes clocking up just
12.5% ABV, possess great luminosity and entirely
individual nuance. This is a winemaker
at his best – and not only in Württemberg.
94 2018 Uhlbach Götzenberg Riesling GG
Strong yellow with greenish reflections in the glass. Extremely
young on the nose, needs a lot of air contact then
hints of white pepper emerge but hardly any primary fruit.
Very individual aromas on the palate, cinnamon, green plum,
lime and mustard flour. Really dry, unique style with elegance.
13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
96 Fellbach Lämmler Spätburgunder GG 2018
Still very reductive on the nose with detected notes of plum
and cocoa bean. On the palate there is density and a casual
elegance that was not really typical nor thinkable for this
German style of wine in the past. A clear lively tannic structure,
dense, composed and simply brilliant. At the beginning
of its journey! 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€
94 Fellbach Lämmler Lemberger GG 2018
Reductive nose that needs time. Background scents of clove,
black berry and hints of undergrowth. Dense, deep and relaxed
on the palate with highly complex, fresh and intense
fruit. A completely unaggressive Lemberger with fine style.
13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
94 2018 »Simonroth« Spätburgunder trocken
Blackcurrant, clove and juniper aromas with consistent,
darker type nuances. On the palate very fine undergrowth
nuances with a good acidity structure and density flanked by
integrated tannins. Despite the 13.5 per cent alcohol by volume
and without breadth it‘s already at GG level.
13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
Sauvignon Blanc trocken
89 2019 »Steinwiege« Sauvignon Blanc tr.
89 2019 »Steinwiege« Weissburgunder tr.
88 2019 Muskattrollinger trocken
92 2018 »Simonroth« Lemberger trocken
90 2019 »Steinwiege«
Gelber Muskateller trocken
Varietal aroma on the nose, fresh grapes and rose petals.
Really nice and dry with just 10,5% alcohol. Refreshing,
consistent in style, ready to drink. An all-round convincing
estate wine. 10,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
