Christoph Hammel is a real character
and by now a kind of brand in his own
right within the Pfalz wine scene –
not that it is short of such types or personalities.
This winemaker with his Father Christmas
beard manages to combine quality with
accessibility, like his elegant blend “Liebfraumilch
Schwarze Madonna’’, for instance.
His wines are balanced, gluggable, not too
complicated – while absolutely avoiding banality
and showing real profile. It’s an artwork
in itself. An achievement that probably only
Christoph Hammel could achieve!

A classic representation of its variety. On the nose a scent of
white peach, lemon peel, nutmeg and rose petal as well as
subtle herbs. These medium intense aromas and flavours are
balanced by fine acidity. Medium bodied with good length.

Still pale in colour but intense in aroma; ripe pear, lemon
zest, lime and mango. On the palate the residual sweetness
remains discreetly behind the primary, ripe fruit and is balanced
by lively acidity. With a fine sweetness-acidity interplay.

Medium intense nose with aromas of cherry, raspberry,
blackberry and clove. Powerfully built on the palate with ripe
tannins and lively acidity, also notes of cedar and forest floor.

A scent of sour cherry, wood spice and black pepper on the
nose. On the palate the wine has texture, power and ripe tannins.
Rather dense but also mellow, has juicy fruit and a
plump suppleness in the background. A wine with plenty of
