By now it is a cherished tradition that
each year Nick Köwerich also sends us
mature wines to taste. This time he
picked a Beerenauslese from the Laurentiuslay
site and the 2009 vintage. Sheer poetry! Those
who look at warm vintages – like 2009 – with
scepticism will soon realise they are mistaken.
A Riesling grown on slate will always turn into
something noble when the wine is made by a
skilled hand. But now to the current wines,
which emphasize the mineral freshness of the
vintage and as one of our tasters put it – it
“conveys convivial charm.” Wonderful!

Riesling trocken
Powerfully mineral on the nose, with just a hint of yellow
fruit. On the palate very supple from the onset to the finish,
plus a layer of very fine, mealy phenolics, lots of juiciness,
good nerve, dense yet light-hearted. Round and without isolated
sweetness. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
and concentrated background on the palate, light viscosity
and ripe acidity with a dollop of mealy phenolics. A supple
and calm Spätlese that conveys cosy charm.

Herbal-spicy with scents of wormwood, a hint of petrol, yellow
fruit notes, apricot, caramelised notes and a whiff of
roast jus. Creamy and textural on the palate, intense sweetness,
ripe acidity, complex and dense, salty. With the fullness
of a ripe year, but also with balance. 8,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€

Ripe apricot is joined by fine herbal notes, passion fruit, caramel.
On the palate there is good concentration and density,
the present acidity provides balance and life, good complexity.
Some iodine and phenolics with a fine mineral character.

Concentrated nose of apricot and papaya, also honey. Soft

Laurentiuslay Riesling trocken
Citrusy scents, slate-spicy-smoky and herbaceous aromas
on the nose; neat and complex. On the palate there is tension,
but also content of fruit, minerality and juiciness. Not
too sweet. Shows nonchalant elegance.
