Mathias Meimberg and Johannes Arnold
are the two men behind Weinhaus
Boessneck – it is their aim to
make premium Sekt and wine from just
0.89ha of vineyards. The wine range that this
duo presented may be small but it is exquisite
and full of surprises. Their Sekt “resolut”
shows stature and complexity after seven
years on lees while the bone-dry “black” Sekt
does not have to hide, either. The uncompromising
Sylvaner does not give a fig for convention,
the powerfully smooth Spätburgunder
makes the mark where red wine is concerned.
A surprising discovery in Franken!
92 »black« brut nature
Deep yellow appearance with scents of ripe yellow apple,
wild raspberry, aniseed biscuits, brioche and a dash of saffron
with a somewhat malty, slight oxidative note. Full-bodied
and complex on the palate, distinctly dry and also demanding
with fine spiciness and subtle fruit nuances depicting
individual uniqueness. Long finish!
12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€
92 2013 »resolut« brut nature
Cardamom and allspice on the nose, apple peel, aniseed
rolls, brioche, floral notes and fir honey. On the palate there
is very fine mousse, relatively mild acidity and also good
freshness and tension, emphatically dry, somewhat salty.
Uncomplicated. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€
92 2016 Spätburgunder trocken
Ripe cherry and cassis in the full aroma, followed by smoke,
some seaweed, hint of tar, black tea, blood orange and sultanas.
At first soft on the palate, some beetroot, then tension
and texture build up, distinctive tannins, power and suppleness.
Good potential. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
91 2017 Sylvaner trocken
Smoky, spicy nose with woody aromas, pear and quince
with hints of pepper, no obvious primary fruit. Tautly built
on the palate, emphatically dry, phenolic, good density and
also concentration. Uncompromising, unconventional.
Ageing potential! 12,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€€
