The evolution of the Griebeler brothers continues
apace. It was in 2014 that Peter and
Ulrich Griebeler took over the Heinrichshof,
since then, they have almost tripled their
vineyard area to eight hectares. The brothers make
quiet, understated wines that come with excellent
balance; they are experimenting with maturation in
wood – and their 2018 “Zulast” Riesling which matured
in a 500-litre barrel demonstrates how well
they pull this off. Apart from its Riesling freshness,
the wine possesses an almost Burgundian mouthfeel.
But clearly the brothers are also masters of the
classic Mosel style – whether that is the dry Zeltinger
Sonnenuhr Rotlay or a creamy Beerenauslese.

Riesling trocken
Clear, medium yellow. On the nose smoke, hints of vanilla,
apricot, peach,and mango notes, aged in 500 litre barrels.
Powerful on the palate, fine acidity, citrus fruit, minerality,
texture, again influenced by the barrel. Good structure,
unique. 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Clear, medium yellow. On the nose vanilla and toast, some
smoke, apple peel, pear and delicate floral scents. On the
palate balanced acidity, juicy, with texture, again apple and
pear, some hazelnut as well. A good integrated structure,
medium to good length. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Riesling Beerenauslese
On the nose passion fruit, green apple and toffee with density
and intensity. Starts very creamily on the palate, followed
by nice concentration, good extract and precise acidity. Overall
good balance as well as a pleasant astringency in the
powerful sweetness. 7,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Riesling Auslese
Clear, medium yellow. Still restrained nose with ripe orange,
mango, candied lime and after aeration hints of blossom
honey. On the palate nice texture, honey, apricot, ripe citrus
fruits, grippy acidity and a rather elegant structure. Finishes
with a hint of spice. 8 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Cherry and fine wood scents on the nose, the wood is not
dominant but is well integrated. On the palate there is
sweet extract and fine acidic flow. Powerfully built, yet never
losing elegance, juicy and with sensitively integrated
