GRANDS CRUS – NAHE
TOP WINES FROM PRIVILEGED SITES OF THE REGION
DORSHEIM | BURGBERG
This barely 4ha/9.8 acre top site is an up
to 60% steep amphitheatre facing south
to south-east. It rises 190-290m/623-
951ft. The stony soils are composed of
slate debris, quartzite and gravel but there
also is loam. Water availability is thus
ensured. The name refers to Burg, i.e.
Castle Layen.
NORHEIM | DELLCHEN
The slate soils of this 2.6ha/6.4 acre site,
partially terraced, also contain weathered
material of the neighbouring volcanic
rocks. The stoniness of the soil and the
fully southern aspect, with inclines between
50-70%, make Dellchen an outstanding
vineyard – but one that is also hard to
cultivate. Its name (=little dip, indent) is
derived from the fact that the vines thrive
amidst the rocky outcrops.
NIEDERHAUSEN |
HERMANNSHÖHLE
This 8ha/19.8 acre site enjoys a global
reputation due to its ability to bring forth
delicately-spiced Riesling. The stony slate
soils, also containing calcareous veins,
have done much to create this reputation,
as has its dome-shaped southeast-southsouth
west aspect with its incline of up to
60%. The vines enjoy a sweet-spot altitude
of 130-175m/426-570ft. The term
