Everything runs smoothly in the<br />

slate-covered manor house in Bernkastel.<br />

The team surrounding Dr Tom<br />

Drieseberg and cellar master Norbert Breit<br />

used the wonderful grapes that 2019 delivered<br />

on a silver platter to make wines full of poise<br />

and mineral density. In the end, it is down to<br />

personal taste whether you appreciate the dry<br />

or noble sweet wines more. It is rather fortunate<br />

then, that all the prices are calculated so<br />

fairly, that you will not have to break the bank<br />

– even if you cannot decide between GG and<br />

Spätlese. Wine lovers with wisdom will stash a<br />

few bottles away!<br />

95 2019 Bernkastel Doctor Riesling GG<br />

Well condensed Mosel nose with yellow fruit, spice and minerality,<br />

also darker notes and slightly ethereal. On the palate<br />

there is a very good balance of elements, the ripe acidity is<br />

precise. Good substance, elegant and spicy minerality, good<br />

perspective. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€<br />

95 2019 Wehlen Sonnenuhr Riesling GG<br />

Spicy nose, allspice and coriander plus ripe yellow fruit, papaya<br />

and peach. Substantial and dense on the palate with<br />

spiciness and an aristocratic acidity, depicts the Sonnenuhr<br />

in a beautiful classic interpretation that conveys stature and<br />

greatness. Lots of substance. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€<br />

Trockenbeerenauslese Grosse Lage<br />

Strong botrytis scents, intense mineral nuances, kumquat<br />

and caramelised notes. On the palate there are two poles:<br />

viscosity and tactile minerality. Penetrating but ripe acidity.<br />

All very finely chiselled, salty, clear and fresh despite the immense<br />

extract. 6 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€<br />

Beerenauslese Grosse Lage<br />

Scents of date, fine spicy botrytis tones and a hint of smoke.<br />

Highly dispersing on the palate with fresh yellow fruit, herbs,<br />

sweetness and acidity in great harmony with mineral nuances.<br />

Good extract and very good balance. Finely chiselled and<br />

not loud, stylish. 7 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€<br />

Clear, medium yellow. Fine mineral spiciness, ripe citrus<br />

fruit, chiselled, papaya, lemon balm and refined honey.<br />

Fine texture on the palate followed by ripe fruit, citrus<br />

notes and apple peel with refined phenolics, densely integrated<br />

and very balanced. Power and elegance, great<br />

length and spiciness. 8,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€€<br />
