While Weingut Lohr has been
around ever since 1665, it now
seems to have entered a particularly
dynamic phase: this Worms estate is updating
its website and rumour has it that it is all a
bit secretive. “The term change probably best
describes our current work,” the estate will
have us know. One thing is certain: Johanna
Bossert is now part of the team. “We have
merged our paths,” the winemaker from Gundersheim
confirms. Their aim is to “make
wines that are unforgettable.” The wines that
were presented this year have created a change
and represent a new start.
91 2019 Flomborn Goldberg Riesling trocken
Notes of spontaneous fermentation, apple, malt, herbs and
ripe stone fruit, peach. The powerful palate has a clearly defined
stature showing juicy, sweet fruit and ripe acidity. Nice
interplay, good extract, phenolic and multi-layered.

90 2019 Flomborn Chardonnay trocken
Ripe pear on the nose, tangerine and apple, leafy with spicy
notes. Well built on the palate with juice and texture, again
spicy and herbal hints. Sweet extract, a layer of fine phenolics,
and a slight tartness on the finish increase the complexity.

89 2019 Chardonnay trocken
Ripe apple on the nose, citrus fruit and mirabelle plums,
herbs and flowers come along. Powerfully built on the palate
with sweet extract, juice and texture, pure fruit, ripe apricot.
The ripe acidity is well integrated, fine spice. Generous and
charming. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
89 2016 Riesling brut
Ripe peach fruit, spice and a hint of petrol, a little saffron. On
the palate there is a powerful mousse and good freshness.
Slender construction, ripe and stable acidity fills the palate.
Spicy, demanding but also elegant. Very well made.

89 2019 Sauvignon Blanc trocken
Spicy and varietal nose; ripe grapefruit, gooseberry as well
as mango, spicy components and lemongrass. On the palate
there is juicy, vivid acidity and beautiful fruit expression,
fine salty and spicy nuances; slender in structure yet
