We are very pleased with the wines
that Konstantin Guntrum and cellar
master Dirk Roth presented: the
single-site wines show their provenance with
intensity and freshness and have transformed
the 2019 vintage with an extra portion of mineral
tension. There is no need to hurry with
these wines, the Oppenheimer Sackträger will
easily last a five-year distance, the Niersteiner
Oelberg at least a decade and Hipping even
longer. Thankfully there also are wines like the
Niersteiner village wine, or the Sekt, which give
much pleasure in the interim. We also liked the
gastronomically-inspired Spätburgunder.

Riesling trocken
Tangerine, balsamic notes, very mineral. Slightly floral, silky
and rounded on the palate, broad, supple, fine phenolics with
slightly viscous layers, the acidity seamlessly connected to
the body. A very refined single-site wine, long finish.

Riesling trocken

Red apple, plum, wet sand and slatey notes. Opening with
juiciness on the palate, then deliciously phenolic and intense
tactile minerality. Brisk acidity in a rich, very
well-balanced wine. Good length. Made for ageing.

On the nose, citrus, ripe stone fruit (peach) and also a hint of
petrol. Juicy on the palate with some saltiness. Lively acidity
and neat mousse, showing incipient evolution and uncompromising
rigour. 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€
91 2017 »Réserve« Pinot Noir trocken
Spicy and ripe on the nose with varietal aromatic expression
and hints of almond and cocoa, herbal spice and light cherries.
Lots of juice on the palate, fine, slightly drying tannin,
tense acidity on a powerful body, sinewy and gastronomic.

89 2019 Nierstein Riesling trocken
Yellow-fruity aroma, notes of orange zest, dense and lively
on the palate, firm acid backbone, lots of juiciness, discreet
spicy finish, the slightly mineral hue gives the wine elegance.
