Sometimes we wonder how it is all going
to end with Tobias Knewitz: he made his
first wines as a 14-year-old, took over
the family estate at 21 and now at age 30 he
makes wines like few others. This precocious
winemaker is supported by his brother Björn
and his father Gerold who mainly looks after
the vineyards which by now have grown to 25
hectares. We were smitten with the Hundertgulden
Riesling with its fine phenolics and pervasive
minerality. At least one thing is certain:
we are happy to reward this stellar performance
with a fourth star!

Alluring smoky spice on the nose, alongside lime citrus and
grapefruit. Highly concentrated on the palate with very fine
phenolics, a hint of carbon dioxide, but also a penetrating
tactile minerality. Density without drama. Very good!

honeysuckle. On the palate lively acidity balances the fruit
flavours, complemented by lychee and ginger. A precise, persistent
wine in a medium body with a good finish.

Pale lemon yellow in the glass. Fresh herbs, lime and apple
on the nose. Very precise primary fruit on the palate, complemented
by a fine mineral component. Compactly-built,
well-balanced, perfectly-integrated acidity with a long finish.

Still closed on the nose offering more minerality than fruit.
Good density on the palate, supple foundation, poised and
plump, but also with refined acid backbone and mineral core.
Tangerine and kumquats on the finish. Freshness and minerality,

of limestone. The palate is substantial, straightforward
and built without frills, firm but not aggressive acidity,
juicy, distinctive, in excellent balance. Compact and long
