more than respectable debut in this
Wineguide! It was only last year that
Weingut S. J. Montigny in Bretzenheim
turned into Weingut “In den zehn Morgen”
which now looks after the former site porfolio
of Weingut August E. Anheuser. The team surrounding
Steffen Montigny is ambitious and
full of purpose: As of 2019 all their vineyards
are in conversion to organic viticulture. In the
wines that were presented for tasting, it was
not just the current single-site Rieslings that
impressed us, but two wines really stood out,
Kahlenberg which shows a sublime sense of
calm, and Steinberg which is full of potential.

Riesling trocken
Tangerine, vine peach, clear mineral notes. On the palate, a
drive and intense minerality, powerful, strong terpenic extract,
seamlessly-integrated acidity. Still closed, but with
good potential. 12 Vol.-%. cork

Riesling trocken
Herbaceous, grated lemon peel, pure and taut on the nose. A
balanced calm palate, medium substance, ripe acidity, good
concentration and length. Pleasantly dry and unpretentious.
Finely-nuanced and slightly mineral on the finish.

Riesling Kabinett feinherb
Smoky-mineral and nuanced citrus fruit on the nose. Slightly
carbonated, juicy and salty with fine acidity in a light to medium
body. A well-balanced Kabinett, not too sweet, not too
heavy, with great minerality. 10 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
91 2019 Bad Kreuznach Krötenpfuhl Riesling
Orange marmalade, sultana, red apple, On the palate there is
a dry, firm acidity and some phenolics and restrained sweetness.
A puristically designed, strikingly pithy, single-vineyard
Riesling with good ageing potential. 13 Vol.-%. cork
