We take our hats off to Dorothee Zilliken
who maintains the cruising altitude
of this family-run estate in Saarburg
with warmth and charm – while carefully
evolving and extending the wine range as well.
Last year, we were allowed to taste a Trockenbeerenauslese
which left us no choice but to award a
100-point score. This year we were astounded by
the estate Riesling: a wine of such raciness and
class, whichwould easily pass as a village or single-site
wine elsewhere. The GG from the parcel
“Auf der Rausch”, presented for the first time in a
reserve style with 18 months maturation on lees,
convinced us with flying colours: truly subtle!

Clearly defined nose with apricot, peach and mirabelle
plums, also subtle spice. On the palate there is juice and
sweet fruit, very clear in expression, good balance, the acidity
is ripe and delicate. Minerality and format in harmony.

Clear, light yellow. On the nose racy minerality, crushed rock,
peach blossom and lime, multi-layered and fresh. On the palate
juicy citrus fruit, fine phenolics, balanced and dense, mineral
traction, balanced acidity. Elegance and power, potential!

Clear, medium yellow. On the nose blossom honey, sultanas,
dates, herb garden savouriness, ripe citrus fruits; rich. Balanced
and powerful on the palate, ripe acidity, peach nectar
nuances, mineral traction, very dense structure with a great
length. Potential for decades. 8 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€
93 2019 Saarburg Rausch Riesling Spätlese
Clear, medium yellow. On the nose very ripe, bright fruit,
some blossom honey and dried apricots. On the palate powerful
tension, texture, peach and madarine notes, mineral
underlay and very finely integrated. Great length, lots of potential.

Very clear and tidy on the nose, citrusy, subtle slate notes
and marigold. On the palate juicy, fresh acidity, quite delicate
and subtle, but also with a firm Saar Riesling style.
Immensely balanced and nuanced, fresh and delicate.
