It does not happen very often that a former
apprentice takes over a wine estate. Stefan
Stassen bought the C.A. Haussmann estate
in 2014, which can trace its history back
to 1559. He had completed his Winzer apprenticeship
there in 1982. His five hectares of
vines are in and around Traben-Trarbach, in
sites like Taubenhaus, Königsberg, Kräuterhaus
and Würzgarten as well as in the Ürziger
Würzgarten. The dry Auslese “Schieferjuwel”
left a particular impression with its mineral savouriness,
while the noble sweet “Schieferjuwel”
came with generous expression. A great
debut!

Kräuterhaus Riesling Auslese trocken
Herbal and spicy notes in the somewhat closed nose, hints of
yeast, apple peel and rosehip, also ripe stone fruit scents. Juicy
and with well-judged fruit sweetness on the palate, ripe acidic
structure and some pineapple juice notes. Lots of content in a
lean and mineral-spicy format. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
and slightly plump with good flow. Beautiful, almost distinctive
finish with notes of cool pebbles. Generous and stylish.

Riesling Spätlese feinherb
Very delicate nose of apricot and vine peach, hay and cereals,
candy cane and white floral scents. On the palate there is
lots of juice, a clear sweetness with delicate acidity and positive
'feinherb' hints that have an animating effect and encourage
the next sip. 11,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €

Trarbach Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett tr.
Ripe apple and citrus fruit on the nose, herbs and stony
notes. Slenderly built Riesling, which with its filigree structure
deserves the Prädikat Kabinett category. Juicy and with
fruit sweetness, which corresponds well with the fresh acidity.
Fine spiciness on the finish. 11 Vol.-%. screwcap, €

Kräuterhaus Riesling Auslese
Fine nose of mild pipe tobacco, stone fruit, clover and hops.
On the palate a delicate sweetness with juicy acidity, fresh

Herbaceous on the nose, showing apple and stone fruit as
well as spicy-slate notes. Slenderly built on the palate, with
ripe and juicy freshness, fine interplay of sweetness and
acidity, a recurrence of stony notes and also good phenolics.
Shows its origin in a calm way. 12 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
