The hot vintage of 2018 does not seem to
have fazed Konrad Salwey. The red single-site
wines have the kind of fruit that
combines intensity with nuance, their nature
remains fresh and cool. With his Grosses
Gewächs from the Oberrotweiler Henkenberg
site, Salwey has indeed presented Baden’s best
Spätburgunder: compelling, with great tension
and fulminating minerality! It is absolutely
impressive how obsessively this winemaker
hones the quality of his wines, all of which are
made to mature and evolve. The white GGs
from the 2017 vintage still come across pristinely
fresh. Lay them down!

Initially spice, then notes of anise, cumin and a whiff of delicate
wood scents. On the palate smooth substance and finely-textured
phenolics, with a punchy body and concise acidity,
remaining smooth and aromatic in a homogeneous way

Sour cherry, discreet wood notes, dark raspberry, some forest
floor and conifer. On the palate there is great tension,
firm tannins, exciting tactile minerality, lively acidity and a
gripping ripe extract, which is supported by fresh fruit and

Mineral spiced sweet cherry, mint, violet pastilles. Supple onset,
then a slowly rolling extract where grippy tannins and
powerful tactile mineral notes vie for supremacy. Ultra pure
fruit on the palate. Length. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Spätburgunder GG
Forest blueberry, blackberry, green tea, flint and warm gravel,
floral nuances. Plump base, slight sweetness, strong alcohol,
powerful but not a massive tannin texture, lots of juiciness
in the background, pervaded by minerality. Still closed
in the finish. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€

Comparatively light but a vibrant colour. Raspberry and
sweet cherry on the nose, also a tad of sweet almond. Taut
and juicy on the palate, fine-grained to firm and very fresh
tannins. Grippingly straight on the palate, has bite and juiciness
as well as a delicate fruit accompaniment.
