WILTINGEN | SCHARZHOFBERG
The origins of the Scharzhofberg can be
traced to an endowment made to the St.
Marien monastery in the year 700. The
speciality of this mesoclimate are the
enormous diurnal temperature swings.
This 28ha/69 acre site is legendary. Situated
in a windy lateral valley, rising from
190-310m/623-1017ft, it is not particularly
warm, however, this up to 60% steep,
south-to-southeast-facing slope creates
ideal conditions for slow ripening of the
grapes. The heavily-weathered grey slate
creates wines of striking mineral aromas.

OCKFEN | BOCKSTEIN
This almost 60ha/148 acre large site
produces the most powerful wines of the
Saar valley. Its stony but also loamy soils of
greywacke and slate provide heat retention
and regulate water availability while the
topography provides a warm mesoclimate.
The steepest parcels have inclines of up to
80% while the central slope takes the shape
of a heat-retaining amphitheatre. The site
frames the village of Ockfen in a south-east
to south-west-facing semi-circle.
