This year it was Weingut Würtzberg’s offering
of sweet and noble sweet wines
that captured the hearts of our tasting
team. A well-travelled sommelier noted enthusiastically:
“This is a great discovery for me,
these are wines with great potential.” Yet, the
dry wines, like the “Grosses Gewächs” from
the Würtzberg or the slate-savoury “Scivaro”
are equally convincing. Meanwhile, the young
winemaker Felix Heimes is supported by his
sister Annalena, freshly graduated from Geisenheim
and back home in Serrig. Bundled

Riesling Spätlese trocken
Herbal notes on the complex nose, stone fruit, citrus aromas
with slate spice nuances. Slenderly structured on the
palate, but with good intensity, fullness and also density.
Clearly defined opulence grounded by slate-spicy minerality.

94 2019 Serrig Herrenberg Riesling Auslese
Authentic, youthful Riesling yellow appearance. Maritime
and stone fruit character scents with hints of smoke and
stone nuances and even a hint of Rheingau in this wine followed
by apple tart on a marzipan puff pastry base. Compact
fruit sweetness and varied accents on the palate.

93 2019 Serrig Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese
Pale yellow with almost invisible green hues. Subtle lemon
peel and leaves on the nose. On the palate there is good
concentration and a superb interplay and balance of sweetness
and acidity. Radiant Riesling with enormous potential
that can develop over many years. 10 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

White gold colour. Green apples with a hint of lemon blossom
and coriander seed. Sensitive and at the same time
authentic, fine sweetness with ripe acidity. A wine with
delicacy and refinement, honest, independent and with a
gentle but authoritative hallmark.

Notes of spontaneous fermentation, herbs, apple peel, caraway,
fresh hay with scents of apple and apricot. On the palate,
lean and tightly built with good extract, fine tart sweetness
which merges with juice and slate spice. Shows traction,
